What You Need to Provide

Express ID Option (Where Available)

If you select Express ID, you only need 3 specific documents:

✅ Australian passport
✅ Australian driver's licence
✅ Medicare card

Plus: Biometric face matching with a liveness test will be conducted as part of the verification process.

You will require physical copies of these documents ready at hand to scan. If you do not have physical copies or only have digital copies, you can still upload ID documents via the Standard ID path.

Standard ID Requirements

For standard processing, as required by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC), you must provide a minimum of 5 documents from the categories below:

Essential Requirements

Your ID Documentation Must Include:

Full name (as it appears on official records)
Date of birth
Photograph (where applicable)

Photo Requirements

If your documents don't include a photograph, you must submit a passport-style photograph certified by a person listed in Schedule 2 of the Statutory Declarations Regulations 1993.

Name Changes

If any documents show a former name, you must also provide evidence of name change:

Change of name certificate from Australian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, OR
Australian marriage certificate issued by a state or territory (church or celebrant certificates not accepted)

Category 1: Commencement of Identity (Choose 1)

Primary identity establishment documents:

Australian birth certificate (full certificate, not extract or birth card)
Australian passport
Australian visa (current at time of entry as resident or tourist)
ImmiCard issued by Immigration and Border Protection
Certificate of identity issued by Foreign Affairs and Trade (for refugees and non-Australian citizens)
Document of identity issued by Foreign Affairs and Trade (for Australian citizens or Commonwealth nationals)
Australian citizenship certificate

Category 2: Primary Use in Community (Choose 1)

Main identification used in daily life:

Australian driver's licence (current, learner, or provisional with signature/photo)
Foreign passport (current with valid entry stamp/visa + Australian visa/VEVO printout)
Proof of age or photo identity card (Australian Government issued with signature and photo)
Shooters or firearms licence (current with signature and photo, not minor permits)
Student ID card (for under 18s only, with signature or photo)

Category 3: Secondary Use in Community (Choose 2)

Supporting identification documents:

Financial & Government Cards

Medicare card
Bank card or credit card
Australian Electoral Commission enrolment
Centrelink or Veterans' Affairs benefit evidence

Professional & Security Cards

Security guard or crowd control photo licence
Aviation Security Identification Card
Maritime Security Identification Card

Government Photo ID

Police force photo identity card
Australian Defence Force photo identity card
Australian/state/territory government photo identity card
Foreign Affairs and Trade consular photo identity card

Educational Documents

Australian tertiary student photo identity document

Special Circumstances

The ACIC may allow special provisions to verify your identity, but only in exceptional circumstances.
